![]() Jamestown, N.Y. – The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown (UUCJ) has welcomed Julie Anderson as their full-time Sunday morning pianist at their 1255 Prendergast Avenue location. UUCJ Interim President David Winner expressed the congregation’s enthusiasm when he said, “Julie has brought a sense of consistency to our Sunday mornings, choosing hymns to complement the messages of our various speakers and making lovely selections for the special music of her preludes, offertories and postludes.” Of her move from being twice-monthly to every Sunday at the church, Anderson said, “The UUJC shares my values of justice and righteousness, and I am excited and grateful to be sharing my passion for music and contributing to their worship services with music.” Anderson’s suggestion of a Hymn Sing that will be the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, March 2 is an example of the creativity she brings. As she describes, “This service is about the joy and meaning of music. We all have our favorite music and this is an opportunity for the congregation to choose hymns to sing.” Those offering selections are invited to share a few words about why it is their favorite, if they have a memory about the hymn, or if they know some history about it. A graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a music concentration, Anderson has taught music classes in public and private schools and is currently an instructor at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts. Since coming to Jamestown in 1989, she studied piano with Mrs. Helga Hulse for 14 years and performed in faculty recitals of Keyboard Instructors. Retired Jamestown Community College chemistry professor Chuck Brininger, who has sung from childhood in high school, college and church choirs, as well as Chautauqua Chamber Singers and the CMP (Community Music Project) Chorale, is the March 2 service leader. All are welcome to the service and the coffee hour that follows at 1255 Prendergast Avenue. To participate virtually, use the link at UUJamestown.org/calendar. Parking is available behind the church. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown is a progressive, liberal religious community serving the southern tier of Western New York and Warren County, Pa. The UUCJ’s mission is to support and celebrate each other, encourage spiritual and individual growth, and serve the wider community. Comments are closed.
