Janet Forbes on “Now is the Time for Courageous Change” at Virtual Unitarian Service November 21, 2021
Jamestown, N.Y. – The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization advancing human rights together with an international community of grassroots partners and advocates.
Every year around Thanksgiving time, the UUSC launches their “Guest at Your Table” campaign to raise funds for projects around the world.
At the virtual service of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown (UUCJ) on Sunday, November 21, 10:30 a.m., Janet Forbes, the congregational liaison with UUSC, will kick off the 2021 Guest at Your Table campaign.
Forbes’s message will focus on this year’s theme, “Now is the Time for Courageous Change.” It relates to the sixth of seven principles that Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote: “The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.”
The service will include members sharing why they support UUSC.
The Story for All Ages will be Wishes by Muon Thi Van, illustrated by Victo Ngai. It speaks to the experience of refugees as they leave their homeland and try to find safety and a new life.
Forbes has been a member of UUCJ and the UU Fellowship of Chautauqua for over 40 years and is a long-time UUSC supporter. She received her nursing degree from Jamestown Community College and her B.S. in Human Services from SUNY Empire State College. Now retired, her work experience included WCA Hospital, Cassadaga Jobs Corps Academy, and Chautauqua County Health Network. Her volunteer activities include American Association of University Women, Audubon Community Nature Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension Chautauqua County Master Gardeners, James Prendergast Library, and YWCA Jamestown.
For those who are interested, an optional virtual coffee hour in breakout rooms follows the service.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, UUCJ Sunday services are remaining virtual instead of returning to 1255 Prendergast Avenue. Anyone is welcome to participate with the link at UUJamestown.org/calendar.
