 Steven Cobb Jamestown, N.Y. – Participants will learn about “The Peer Movement and the MHA in Chautauqua County” at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown’s (UUCJ) 10:30 a.m. virtual service on Sunday, March 28, 2021.
Presenter Steven Cobb is executive director of the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County (MHA). This peer recovery center offers support groups and individual coaching for people looking to improve their lives, deepen wellness, thrive in recovery, or support those on a recovery path. Peers use their personal stories to help people find recovery in their own lives in their own way. There will be an opportunity for questions after the presentation. For those who are interested, an optional coffee hour in breakout rooms follows the service. Cobb has been a staff member of the MHA for nine years and the executive director since late 2018. A Maple Grove graduate, he was an Eagle Scout and Boys Stater. With a BFA from New York University, he worked as an actor and set designer, taught at the French Culinary Institute, and managed restaurants. After finding meth to be the best way to deal with his crippling anxiety and depression, Cobb ended up living on the streets of New York City. More than a decade ago he returned home, looking for a way out of homelessness, addiction, and depression. At the MHA he found a kindness and acceptance that gave him the hope that led to his recovery. Mental Health Association services are provided in Jamestown at the Gateway Center, in Dunkirk at Grace Lutheran Church, and virtually. All MHA services are free. The link goes out on Friday afternoon, but you can request to join until the start of the service on Sunday.
